One of the most talented composers of the Greek younger generation, Manos Milonakis keeps moving forward with new music, plenty of ideas and faith in the language of sounds that never stops to explore in various directions.
His new album- “Festen” (out now at moderna records) is the original score for a theatrical adaptation of Thomas Vinterberg ‘s movie, for the National Theatre of Northern Greece (directed by Yiannis Paraskevopoulos).
Manos Milonakis ‘ score “celebrates” in its own way the values of the narrative, the story, the themes (echoing the Danish Dogma 95 theory) and the deep, lyrical, complex movements that flow in the new play.
In a classical, cinematic, ambient environment Milonakis (whom we first met in the duet of ‘Your Hand In Mine’) feels completely at home, creating a world where you feel you want to dive in and let yourself wander, not very unlike Max Richter’s invitations to his listener to enter the adventure.
A composer, producer, performer and architect-born in Thessaloniki (north of Greece), he builds his vision on a neo-classical music wave and inspiration – I guess – from all over, including modern Greece, its troubled crisis’ days and unique beauty.
Keep an eye on Manos. And I’ ll keep you posted.
